Lego Castle

Henry got his Lego Magazine in the mail a few weeks ago. There is a contest for the best Lego castle so Henry got to work. He spent so much time on this. We're going to submit it to the magazine to see if he wins! Good Luck Henry!!!!

Mini Golf

Jack had his "date" last week. I took him to a really cool miniature golf place. He had so much fun. Jack was in charge of the activity for Family Night and he wanted to play mini golf again so we made a course in our family room. It was so much fun!

Quiet Time!

I can probably count on 2 hands the number of naps Brinley took this summer. I've re instituted a little slice of heaven I like to call Quiet Time. Everyday after lunch I let Brinley and Jack pick a movie and get their pillows and blankets and Voila!! Brinley takes a 2 to 3 hour nap! Sometimes Jack does too... and so does mommy. Yeah ME!!

It's Been Awhile!

A few weeks ago we went to a Major League Baseball game at Minute Maid Park. For those of you who know me or Lars know that we are NOT fans of that great American pasttime known as baseball. We figured it was our duty as parents introduce our kids to baseball and since the cheap seats were just a buck for kids we thought it would be a great time to do it. (Too bad the cheap seats were sold out when we got there BUT when you get there in during the 5th inning you can get good seats for a fraction of the regular price!) Plus it was "Firework Friday". So of course the score was tied and there were extra innings... that's right innings. 11 to be exact!! We really didn't care who won... as long as SOMEBODY won!!
The boys made this sign that said "Astro's Rock". They were so excited!!!

$6.50 can buy a batting helmet full of stale popcorn. YOOHOO!!!
Just like Disneyland!
Kayla was invited to a sleepover birthday party for a girl in our ward. Yeah - she chose to go to the party. We realized that our little family outings may be slowly coming to an end. As the kids grow up and get busy with school and friends and church... sigh... We'll just enjoy them while we can!!

Labor Day

We had some grand plans for Labor Day but Hermine had other plans. We wanted to venture down to Galveston but figured it would be really wet and miserable. We got up and did some cleaning and packed a pinic lunch and looked outside and realized that it was already pouring rain. We headed for a park with a pavillion and it stopped raining as we pulled into the parking lot. We used some towels (and the bum of the boys shorts) to dry the slides and the kids had a fantastic time. Henry and Kayla have blisters on their hands from the monkey bars, zip line and twisty bar things. It was a great day!!

CAUGHT!!

The other day I took Brinley and Jack to Walmart for a little shopping. I had heard on the news that it was supposed to rain but it was blue skies and sunshine when we left the house. We were in Walmart for a total of about 15 minutes (a new record for me). I heard some thunder and thought, "OK we better hurry..." Apparently we didn't 'hurry' enough. We had entered through the garden center so as we started out it was just a light rain through the covering. I thought my keys were in my pocket so we just went for it, me holding Brin and trying to hasten Jack who was trying to splash in every puddle he could. We got to the car and I realized my keys were in the bottom of my purse - UGGHHH!! I put Brin down and tried to shelter the kids with my body while I fumbled for my keys. We were drenched!! We wrung the water out of our clothes when we got home.
Lessons Learned
#1 - Never trust a blue Texas sky
#2 - For Heaven's Sake - just breakdown and buy an umbrella!!!
(It was pouring yesterday - thanks to hurricane Hermine - when the kids got off the bus. The only umbrella I have is our big striped beach one we took to soccer games in Las Vegas. So I met the bus with that ginormous umbrella. Our neighbor, a 6 foot tall African American man, came to the bus with a little Sponge Bob umbrella. The bus driver had a good laugh!!)
