Baking Bread

Last week a friend of mine asked me to show her and her sister how to make bread. I don't feel like a bread making expert by any means. I can make rolls so I figured how hard can bread really be. We used my mom's roll recipe and it turned out great. so Sunday morning after I put the roast and veggies in the crock pot I decided to make bread again. The kids all got to do one pan. Kayla and Jack made rolls and Henry made a loaf of bread. It turned out great. I told Lars that if I make it all the time it won't be special when I do make it. He disagreed and assured me it would always be special.

Face Painting

I told the kids to squish their faces together so I could take a picture of their painted faces. Jack squished his own face. He's a cutie!

Kayla had a red heart. Jack wanted something Blue, he didn't care what it was. Henry chose a snail. Brinley was just cute. People stop me constantly and comment on how great her hair is. It is just a little blonde fluff. It won't lay down no matter how many products I put in it. I put a clip in it and it fell right out. A few more months and maybe she'll be ponytail ready!!

MultiCultural Festival

Kayla's school had it's annual MultiCultural Festival this week. Kayla's class learned about Brazil. She came home all week and told me about all the research she was doing. She learned about the Amazon river and about how hot is in Brazil because it is close to the equator. We looked at it on our map and followed the equator around to Kenya where Grandma and Grandpa are serving their mission. She said, "That means it's hot there too." She is very smart and it's so fun to see her learn new things.

Water Fun

This afternoon we dumped the sandbox and turned it into a water table. Everyone had fun.

Soccer '09

April marks the beginning of Soccer season. Kayla had a great time playing last year and wanted to play again. Henry has played for 2 seasons in a different league and since his 5th birthday came a couple of months ago he can play in the same league with Kayla. It makes it so much easier. They play at the same park, practice at the same park and it's only about 10 minutes from the house.

The weather man said it was going to be a great weekend - highs in the 80's. Great. Someone forgot to tell the wind and cold the forecast. We sat in the cold wind for Kayla's 9 am game and then got sunburned at Henry's 11 am game. I was holding Brinley during K's game so we didn't

take many pictures because Lars was helping coach. Next week Sweetie!

The hardest part of soccer - those long socks, shin guards and cleats. Let's not forget the humongous shirts!!

Henry decided he wanted to be goalie in the second half. He has found his calling. He doesn't have to run and when the ball comes to him, he knows exactly what to do. Even if it does mean knocking down a girl who tries to score. He was amazing. Daddy the goalie was pretty proud.

Jack's Toe

Jack was running down the hall on Easter night when he tripped on the carpet and stubbed his toe. He screamed like his toe was going to fall off. As time went on it turned a lovely shade of yellow green and purple.

Henry decided he needed to put on his scrubs and give Jack a check up.

Dr. Henry gave him a sucker at the end of the check up and declared him ready to play outside. Henry went in the toy room and took off the scrubs and came back as Jack's "dad" in the family game they were originally playing and he said, "How was your check up?"

That night Jack was still limping on his hurt toe and so I got out the Motrin to give him. I left it on the counter and went to do something else and Lars said Jack had picked up the bottle (lid on) and tried to pour it on his toe so it would feel better.

The next morning for breakfast Kayla blessed Jack's toe in the prayer. Jack looked very surprised and said, "K blessed my toe?". He looked pretty impressed. Miraculously his toe was fine by about 10:00 am.

Every time someone prays Jacks is pretty offended if they forget to bless his toe.

Easter Clothes

Since the kids all just got new Sunday clothes we didn't get them "Easter Clothes" this year. Kayla wore a darling jumper from Hillary. Henry wore his suit. Jack just got new tan pants he wore. Brinley wore this yellow dress Kalya wore for her first Easter. The big kids were already half changed by the time I got in the house with sleeping Brinley from church - so Brinley had a photo shoot after her nap.
I put gel in her hair for church - it didn't work. It layed flat for about 5 minutes, she looked like a little boy. She doesn't look like herself when her is not flying away in the back.

The Baskets

We had very low key Easter Baskets this year.

Henry got a Lego set.

Jack got his very own soccer ball.

Kayla got a Polly Pocket set. Brinley got a cute little pastel colored bug car.

The Weed

Annalee and her family went out of town for spring break and asked us to "babysit" their Wii. Jack called it "the weed." We had a great time with it and decided we would probably never have one for ourselves. It's fun to take care of for awhile but I was very ready to give it back.
Jack got pretty good at swing the baseball bat and tennis racquet. Unfortunately he would swing with his whole body and usually end up on the ground.

Colored Eggs

After having a cup of egg dye spill on our kitchen counter a few years ago, we traditionally color Easter Eggs outside. The kids had a great time.

I was the color NAZI. "... one at a time" "..use your spoon" "...don't drink it" you get the idea.

The Grocery Store

The very last place we visited on our nearly 3 hour journey was the grocery store. There is pretend food (the grapes look so real Jack tried to eat one) baskets and cash registers and lots of fun to be had. What a memorable day.

All the world's a stage at the Discovery Museum. So many dress-ups - so little time. Alas, the bubble table is calling us.
